Glynn Purnell, Michelin-Starred Chef and Restauranteur, who recently starred in BBC’s Great British Menu, will be officially opening Stratford-upon-Avon College’s Platform One in Rugby on Tuesday 21st June at 3:30pm.
Platform One, the College’s student-run training restaurant and bar, is situated at the new Rugby Centre. Under the guidance of their tutors, students undertake tasks valuable to their career development. The brand new, glass-fronted restaurant offers delicious, affordable food to the public including lunches, table d’hote dinner and fine dining.
Simon O’Grady, Curriculum Area Manager, said, “We are delighted to be formally opening Platform One restaurant and the wonderful facilities at the new Rugby site. The restaurant enjoys a bright and airy street-front location and the kitchens and classrooms are equipped with state-of–the-art cooking and teaching facilities.”
“Platform One is an excellent place for students to develop advanced skills and for guests to enjoy good food and attentive service. Stratford-upon-Avon College was the first college in the country to receive the Training Quality Standard award with excellence in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism. Its staff have been running hospitality and catering at Warwickshire College’s Rugby campus since 2003.”
Glynn Purnell set up Purnell’s Restaurant in Birmingham in 2007 which was awarded a Michelin Star in January 2009. It is a chic, contemporary fine-dining restaurant located in Birmingham’s city centre. Glynn’s career started in 1996 at Simpsons in Kenilworth where he worked as Chef de Partie. Glynn starred in BBC’s Great British Menu in 2008 and 2009 as a contestant and later in 2010 as a judge/mentor.
