Support and Advice
We want you to enjoy your time at the Heart of England International Academy.
Being away from home can be a difficult and bewildering time but our experienced International Office Team will provide all the help and support you need.
Induction Orientation Week
During your first week at the College you will be given a warm welcome and introduced to life at the College. There is an International welcome evening where you will be able to meet new friends and your teachers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. In addition to starting your tutorials you will be given all the information necessary to start your course. Coach trips will be arranged for you to visit local and national attractions during which you will have the opportunity to make friends before settling down to study in your allocated tutor groups.
During Your Time at the College
Student welfare is at the heart of our International Academy. At every stage of your College career, we will be there to support you. Our team of specialist International Office staff work together to provide help and advice for all our international students. Whatever your question or problem, you can bring it to us and we will do our best to help you. Caring for our students is as important to us as teaching them.
Here are just some of ways we can help:
-
We organise for the Police to visit the College to help with your registration
-
We organise an appointment for you with the College nurse. This is followed by registration with a local GP. We can also help organise your dental care
-
As a full-time student we allocate you with a personal tutor who will work with you and support you. Our Personal Tutors are chosen for their experience in supporting international students and helping them to achieve their goals
-
Our Student Support team, based within the College Learner Services Office, offers help to students who require advice or counseling
-
We will help you through the process of selecting the right university and completing your application forms
UCAS Advice and Support
All students wishing to go to a United Kingdom university apply through UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk) – the University and Colleges Admission Service. Between September and November you will receive help and advice to make your university choices by your Personal Tutors. In mid November, with this help, you complete and send your university application to UCAS. You can choose six different universities. You will also have the opportunity to visit chosen universities before you decide your final destination.
On Completion of Your Studies
Your involvement with the College does not stop when you complete your studies. We are keen to keep in touch and are available to help with any post-College queries/requests.
