Sophie Skinner and Amie Colby with their awards.

Two catering students from Stratford-upon-Avon College picked up a gold medal and merit award at the Hospitality Salon Culinaire competition last month.

Hospitality Salon Culinaire’s annual Salon Display competition 2011 took place at the Birmingham NEC in January with chefs and patissiers striving to create platters, sculptures and decorative foods. The competition took place at the four-day Hospitality Show and saw many chefs gather gold, silver and bronze medals across a wide range of categories.

Amie Colby won a gold medal for her chocolate petit fours and Sophie Skinner won merit in the ‘starters’ category. Both girls are third year students studying on the Advanced Culinary Diploma.

Stratford-upon-Avon College recently won ‘College of the Year 2010’ from The Academy of Food and Wine Service, a prestigious award nominated by industry. The College, a recognised centre of excellence in hospitality and catering, was the first college in the country to achieve the Training Quality Standard with excellence in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism, in recognition of its outstanding work with employers.
