College Prom 2010

Pre-Entry and Entry students at Stratford-upon-Avon College are holding their third annual ‘End of Year Prom’ in the Ballroom of Stratford Town Hall next week.

The event will take place on the evening of Wednesday, 26th May, to mark the end of their academic year. In previous years the Prom has been held during the afternoon at the college but this year organising staff decided to ‘think big’ and make it an extra special occasion by holding it in the evening at a prestigious venue. With the help of staff at Stratford-upon-Avon Town Hall this dream has come true.

Distinguished guests will include The Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon, the college principal, the head of department and college governors.

The idea for the very first Prom grew from a feeling amongst staff that at the end of a year’s hard work this would be a great opportunity to say farewell as a department. The first two Proms were a great success with learners choosing their Prom Kings and Queens in a secret ballot, displaying many varied and often intriguing dance styles that would put the contestants of ‘Strictly’ to shame, winning prizes and generally ‘having a ball’!

The event is self-financing with the generous support of local businesses and individuals who have donated items such as flowers, vouchers and sashes. This year it is hoped that more sponsors will be involved as costs have risen and every effort is being made to keep them to a reasonable level. Staff are putting a huge amount of time and effort into making this year’s Prom a happy and memorable evening for the department’s very special learners.
