Students from Stratford-upon-Avon College will have the opportunity to quiz local prospective parliamentary candidates on Wednesday 17th March 2010.
Five parliamentary candidates representing the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, UKIP and the Green Parties will be visiting the college to give students, who will be first time voters, the opportunity to question them on their politics. Each candidate will have five minutes to give a brief statement and then students will be able to ask any questions they may have to find out more about each candidate and their party.
Clare King, Curriculum Area Manager – Academic commented, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to find out about our local parliamentary candidates. There are a wide range of representatives attending the event which gives a broad political spectrum for our students to consider.”
Stratford-on-Avon District Council is supporting this event, as it is keen to see first time voters exercise their democratic right and find out first-hand about the different political parties.
The event will be filmed by the college’s media students and streamed live on Stratcast, an online station set up and run by college students. For more information, visit www.stratcast.co.uk|.
Photo opportunity: 12:45pm Wednesday 17th March.
