Fayres at Stratford-upon-Avon College

FreshersFayre2010

Stratford-upon-Avon College held two successful fayres last week welcoming new and returning students to the College.

The annual Freshers’ Fayre was held on Wednesday 22nd September. Local organisations, businesses and charities from Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding area attended the event to welcome in new students. Organisations included Amnesty International, Aston Villa FC, BSM, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Waterstones, Warwick Castle, Warwickshire Police and many more.

“We have had another brilliant Freshers’ Fayre with a larger number of exhibitors this year,” commented Holly Rawlings, the College’s student liaison officer. “Students enjoyed the range of exhibitors, making the most of Stratford Picturehouse’s popcorn and a canine visit from the Guide Dogs. Everyone had an opportunity to learn more about their local community and how to get involved through volunteering, campaigning and fundraising. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such as success!”

Following the Freshers’ Fayre, a Sports Fayre was held on Thursday 23rd September. This was the second time the College has held a specific fayre for sports and activities. The event provided staff and students with information on the many ways that they can get involved in sport within their local community. Organisations included Stratford Leisure Centre, Vinvolved, Stratford-on-Avon Tennis Club, Shakespokes, Stratford Squash Club and many more. The College’s new Football Academy was also exhibiting at the Fayre.

Commenting on the Sports Fayre, Helen McCuaig-Finlay, sports co-ordinator at the College said, “The second annual Sports Fayre was a raving success. Students had the opportunity to play table tennis, squash, hockey and various Wii sports. They also learnt a few self-defence tricks, boxing moves from Andy Clifford, boxing instructor, and rowed their socks off for a chance to win a free month’s membership at Stratford Leisure and Visitor Centre. Both students and exhibitors thoroughly enjoyed the event. We look forward to staging the event again next year.”
