The new Tourist Information Centre in Stratford-upon-Avon will remain at its current location of 62 Henley Street until at least October 2011.
Councillor Mike Brain, Community Services Portfolio says: “The District Council remains committed to tourism promotion and needs to ensure the continuity of its tourism service which makes sense for the current service to remain at its current location until the very least October next year.
“The District Council’s initial plan was to try and open up the old tourist information centre in Bridgefoot but the new location has proved such a success that for the time being we are making this a more permanent alternative.”
Since opening the temporary facility in May, the Henley Street Tourist Information Centre has provided assistance to around 18,500 visitors and the numbers are growing steadily. The Centre offers a wide range of services including last minute accommodation booking, the retail of books, guides and locally-produced products, advice and information on attractions, transport and shopping and ticket sales for attractions.
Peter Ward-Brown, Manager ‘Discover Stratford’ comments: “I am delighted with the success that we have had based in Henley Street. We are now in the process of recruiting employed Apprentices at the Centre to study and gain experience in the tourism sector. These Apprentices will gain knowledge and skills working in Henley Street as well as working in various sector businesses in the local area.”
Stratford-on-Avon District Council’s Henley Street TIC, operated in partnership with Stratford-upon-Avon College, was opened in May 2010.
