Music Students Forge Link with Sir George Martin's Air Studio in London!

Stratford-upon-Avon College music technology students visited Air Studios at Lyndhurst Hall to gain first-hand knowledge from the industry’s foremost recording engineers.

The day began with a tour around the facilities, where the students were able to obtain insider knowledge on the processes of professional recording on a world-class platform. Many famous faces have adorned the famous Air Studios including Dame Shirley Bassey, Coldplay, Il Divo – to name just a few!

Royston Hollyer, digital technician at the college commented, “Giles Martin, Sir George’s son, and the technical director of the Air Group, Tim Vine-Lott were most helpful in providing the students with valuable information. We really appreciate the time they gave up to be with our students and are delighted to be invited back next year.”

Pete Felton, music technology student, said, “The fabulous facilities at Air Studios, combined with the wealth of knowledge, really inspired me to excel in my studies so I can become a sound engineer. It was really exciting seeing the live room where the soundtracks from the Bond movies were recorded. The trip has made me very determined to succeed at Stratford-upon-Avon College”

Martin Penny, Principal commented, “It has been an exciting year for the music department at Stratford-upon-Avon College. November saw the launch of our brand new music production suite. Robin Millar, one of Britain’s most successful record producers, visited the college to officially open the suite which includes digital and analogue recording suites as well as a suite of music practice rooms. The number of students seeking a place on music courses at Stratford-upon-Avon College is increasing rapidly, which is not surprising considering our industry-standard facilities, experienced tutors and excellent industry links.”
